If you enjoyed the Dredd (2012) movie, and the subsequent follow-up comic, Underbelly, then you’re going to want to buy this brand new collection, which also includes short prequel, Top Of The World, Ma-Ma & second sequel, Uprise.
All set in the world of the movie version Dredd, these events happen very early in the hero Judge’s career.
The first story, as mentioned earlier, is a brief prelude to the 2012 Dredd movie, featuring protagonist of the film, Ma-Ma Madrigal, and her subsequent rise to power, as drug queenpin of the crime-ridden Peach Trees citi-block…
Underbelly, is a direct sequel to the movie, centring on the harsh conditions of life in Mega-City One – near-total unemployment, soaring crime levels, and crushing boredom, leading to a constant demand for the latest narcotic high.
Unscrupulous drug suppliers are desperate to keep manufacturing costs low, so have looked outside the city environs to the radioactive wasteland beyond, utilising a mutant workforce that are desperate to find a way out of the nuclear hell that is the Cursed Earth.
Judge Dredd once again teams up with Rookie Psi-Judge Anderson, when mutant corpses start turning up in dump sites across the vast megalopolis…
Uprise is the final installment in this engrossing triplet of early cases, and deals with unrest in a rundown sector of the city, known as ‘The Spit’.
A huge residential structure is under construction, the Oemling Tower, with out-of-sector labour, for out-of-sector money, to house wealthy citizens from other parts of the metropolis.
Creating a flashpoint for the residents to rally around, the people of ‘The Spit’ have formed a group, calling themselves, Uprise, who are determined not to see the tower built, or to be pushed out of their homes by rich outsiders.
Civil unrest is commonplace, and riots are a frequent occurrence when the populace are unhappy – which is often – but since the construction of the tower, things have gotten worse, so much so that Judge Dredd has been called in to help improve the disappointing performance of the local Sector House.
But not everyone is pleased to see the notoriously hard-lined hero, arriving on their patch..
