I’m… Okay, He’s Batman

Mexico Daily LifeFrom the Guardian’s Photo Blog:

Also in Mexico City, it’s Batman and…Batman: Santiago Gomez, dressed in a Batman costume, poses for a photograph with a Batman street performer. Gomez’s parents Rosio and Pepe brought him to the city from Toluca as a gift for his sixth birthday, which is tomorrow. Photograph: Ivan Pierre Aguirre/AP

I mean, come on. This is just awesome, right?

All Around You

turkishFrom the Guardian’s Photo Blog:

Morning all. I think we can expect plenty more of these kind of pictures today. Overnight from Istanbul, a protestor clashes with Turkish riot police on the way to Taksim Square as part of ongoing protests against the ruling party. Photograph: Bulent Kilic/AFP/Getty Images

It feels wrong to say that such scenes look spectacular, but look at this image as an image. It really is impressive, and almost beautiful.

Comes Upon A Mighty Way

One of those times where the image is so beautiful that you almost forget what’s actually happening in it, and that it’s a bad thing.

The Day Today Today

If every a photo deserved a Day Today style caption, it’s this one. I honestly looked at it and immediately thought of Chris Morris seriously intoning “Queen scared of horses, Palace admits.”

Your Moment of Zen

Baby GorillaFrom the Guardian’s Photo Blog:

Seriously, if that picture doesn’t melt your heart just a little, I feel as if you should go see a doctor.

In Which Metaphor and Similie Take A Back Seat

I just love the literalness of this image: “I’m not saying that we’re going to have you jumping through hoops, but, well, we’re totally going to have you jumping through hoops. For real. That’s not a metaphor.”

It’s Not Even Raining

I feel like this should be the first part of a dance routine in an old Hollywood musical or something. The camera slowly pulls toward the umbrella, just as it gets pushed back and bam there’s Gene Kelly…

Now I Realize That I Can Throw

It’s a small thing, but I always loved the way that the rest of the sky gets illuminated by lightning. Look at the shades of purple surrounding the lightning; it’s beautiful.
