Hoary Hosts

So, it appears that the shortlist of current potential Doctor Stranges has leaked from Marvel, and it’s the following actors:

  • Jared Leto
  • Oscar Isaac
  • Matthew McConaughey
  • Jake Gyllenhaal
  • Ethan Hawke
  • Ewan McGregor

If this is true, I feel that Marvel’s just days away from placing a Help Wanted ad that reads “Wanted: Sorcerer Supreme. Must be: White, male, bearded, vaguely familiar but not famous famous. Wiggly fingers a plus.”

One more time, Marvel: It’s okay if you want to finally try a lead character that’s not a white male. Seriously. We’re all okay with that. We’re ready.

It may just be another big summer movie that opens with $90 million+ and then fails to hit $250m domestic. As big as this debut is, and I don’t want to remotely discount it, it’s basically in the same sandbox as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Godzilla which both struggled to cross $200m domestic… [Nonetheless,] this debut, an original space opera starring a cast of mostly (aside from Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper in vocal roles) non-stars (Chris Platt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, and Benicio Del Toro are names of varying recognition without being box office draws) proves two things. First it means that there is no summer slump. Audiences will flock to theaters if the film debuting is something they all want to see. Second, it means that Marvel can do whatever it wants now. So if they choose not to make a female-centric or minority-centric superhero film, it’s because they just don’t want to.

He’s come in to meet on a lot of our movies over the years, in particular Guardians. He had a lot of awesome things to say on Guardians. But James [Gunn] had a slightly more solid take that was of interest to us.

I shit you not, this is Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige seeking to reassure people that replacement Ant-Man director Peyton Reed will do a great job. Because nothing reassures people more than saying “Okay, so he was our third choice replacement for the director who walked off the project, but he was also our second choice director for the movie that’s just about to come out, so, guys? Come on, right, guys?”

A source tells THR that the actor, who reprises his role as Han Solo from the original franchise, was injured by the door of the Millennium Falcon, the spacecraft that his character pilots in the original films. The spaceship looks to be making a return in the sequel.
