The Movies of June 2026

I do wish I could tell you what possessed me to rewatch the Star Wars sequel trilogy mid-month, but beyond seeing people talk about 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker and a completist tendency kicking in, I don’t actually have an answer for that. It just happened, as did the two documentaries accompanying the movies on streaming…? (For the most part, it holds up better than I remembered.)

Hits of the month are Hoppers — it’s surprisingly good! — Eno, and the realization that La La Land was far better than I remembered it being. (I suspect I actually got more of the easter eggs/references/callouts this time around, which helped.) Repo Man was far, far better than I remembered as well, but the last time I watched it was almost four decades ago and I clearly wasn’t ready; O Brother, Where Art Thou was something I basically put on in the background and ended up watching all the way through again, transfixed. Every time I watch it, I think it’s my favorite Coen Brothers movie and then I remember the other Coen Brothers movies.
