Interesting timing here – Marvel will be in the middle of a massive, genuinely line-wide crossover, which seems like a really terrible time to launch, eg, a Prez series into a competitive direct sales marketplace. But on the other hand, this is a very obvious, big pitch for the younger, more digitally inclined, more let’s-face-it Tumblrish new mainstream audience, which seems tantalisingly real post-Ms Marvel and post-Batgirl, and there’s really not much evidence those people care very much about gimongous crossovers. So DC’s gamble is that there’s enough Secret Wars frustration and inertia for them to get trial among those readers. In heritage terms, before the New 52, DC generally had the more progressive, diverse reputation, and Marvel have totally outmaneouvred it this decade, at least in PR terms.
(Oh yeah, geeknalysis aside, some of these look like fun comics!)
