EW also is eschewing the current trend toward paying writers for clicks (at least initially). Some bloggers will be paid, but EW isn’t “putting a specific bounty on traffic,” EW editor Matt Bean said. Others will be compensated in the form of prestige, access to the brand’s editors and a huge potential readership audience via Google Hangouts and its SiriusXM show.

Great! Entertainment Weekly is going down to “Will you blog for exposure?” road. That’s just wonderful.

Which Gorillaz album is the best? Follow-up: which Gorillaz song is the best?

Demon Days is almost certainly the best — the one with less filler, the most coherent narrative throughline (Really, what is going on in Plastic Beach?), and, of course, the one with all the hits*. I’m not sure it’s my favorite, though. Maybe I’ve listened to it too much, but I find myself revisiting Plastic Beach more often these days.

In terms of best song, holy moley, that’s a hard one. I want to say it’s either “Dirty Harry,” “Don’t Get Lost in Heaven/Demon Days” or maybe “Clint Eastwood” off the first album? Again, I’m trying to be subjective, but objectively, my favorite is either “Do Ya Thing,” which I just utterly adore, or “To Binge.”

(Edited to add: Or “Hong Kong”! I always forget “Hong Kong,” but I love that song to pieces. Classic melancholy Albarn.)

The character, Snake Eyes, shall never be depicted or described as a fan of the New York Yankees.

neyruto:

a dystopian novel about some guy who works in the government and is just trying to get by while some shitty kids try and overthrow society

Would definitely read.

Learn to tell stories in 5 page installments (or less). Basic structure: PG 1 – your setup. PGS 2-4 – obstacles to be overcome. PG 5 – final act. Brevity’s important with writing for 2000AD.

Rob Williams’ advice for writers looking to break into 2000AD, from Reddit.

Si Spurrier adds “One really useful trick – and you’d be amazed at how much easier this is than it sounds – is to buy a 22 page spandex book and rewrite it as a 5 or 6 pager.” Now I want to see people breaking down famous US comics and remaking them as Future Shock-esque 2000AD strips.

In an interview with Stern, Rivers pushed the conversation to its bizarre endpoint, saying that Dunham is “sending a message out to people saying, ‘It’s OK! Stay fat! Get diabetes. Everybody die. Lose your fingers.”

As for that Vogue cover, Rivers said: “She was on Vogue’s cover looking gorgeous. You didn’t know it was her.” She said Dunham shouldn’t have appeared on the cover because she didn’t deserve it based on her physical appearance.

Dear Joan Rivers,

Fuck off with this concern trolling bullshit.

Sincerely, Everyone
