Thirty-nine years ago, 2000 AD Prog 1 hit newsstands across the UK. Following in the footsteps of its infamous cousins, Battle Picture Weekly and Action, 2000 AD was a science fiction comic like no other – with its combative satire, no-holds-barred action, and wildly insane SF stylings, it was a great start for the new weekly IPC title.
The character that was to become its most popular, Judge Dredd, didn’t appear until the second issue, but the incredible line-up in its debut set the tone for the next four decades:
- Invasion: The Resistance – Script: Pat Mills, Artist: Jesus Blasco, Letters: Bill Nuttall
- Dan Dare – Script: Ken Armstrong, Artist: Massimo Belardinelli, Letters: Bill Nuttall
- Flesh – Pat Mills, Artist: Boix, Letters: Bill Nuttall
- Harlem Heroes – Tom Tully, Artist: Dave Gibbons, Letters: Dave Gibbons
- M.A.C.H.1: Vulcan – Script: Pat Mills, Artist: Enio, Letters: Bill Nuttall
