Man, I remember this – and also the Q review, which was breathlessly overblown. The crazy excitement surrounding this album (The BBC one hour special the night before release) was amazing, a sign that Britpop had gone over the top and was slowly imploding.
(For years, I’ve wanted someone to try go into the Oasis vaults and try to create a new version of this album with all the songs cut down from six+ minutes to, you know, a more reasonable length, with less overdubs, just to hear what they sound like.)
