Weird. There’s this popular music act (not one I ever liked) that hasn’t put out an album for a while. Not even an act I’ve thought of in years and years– but I had to look something up, and I came across this interview with them. And when they get asked why they haven’t been putting out new music, they’re like “we got sued this one time but then that lawsuit created this other lawsuit which turned into another and another and a whole mess and blah blah blah we’ve been involved in litigation for the last million years everything is awful please kill us.” (Which kinda sounds like an excuse a little bit, but).
But that one lawsuit, the one that started it all? I wrote the first draft of that fucking thing. At my last job, back when I was doing more music work. I quit the job a little while after it got filed so I wasn’t really around for most of the case– actually always felt kind of ashamed about that because I really liked the client but that was a bad job I’d stayed too long at– I never met the band or anything. But I’m looking at these news stories because I had to look something up, and … I think I killed off a famous music act about a decade ago and didn’t know this whole time, you guys!
Which is kind of a fucking weird feeling. That’s a new one for me, at least.
You know: the more accurate way I should probably put things in the future is “people not wanting to pay other people what they deserve killed that act”, technically, but. Still. That happened. That’s a thing that kinda happened, at least in kind of an Ashton Kutcher Butterfly Effect kind of way? So. Uh. Whoops? Uhm. Free Kesha!
