As utterly unmoved as I am by the announcement that Marvel are reviving both the character Peter Parker and the series The Amazing Spider-Man a month before the release of a new movie titled The Amazing Spider-Man 2 featuring the character Peter Parker – I saw it described somewhere online as “the shocking news,” which amused me, because come on, people; this has to be the least shocking news of anything in comics today – I have to admit that this Marcos Martin variant cover is a thing of loveliness. Holy crap, that man is very, very talented.

Whoever colored it (Martin himself? His Private Eye collaborator Muntsa Vicente? I have no idea) deserves a lot of praise, too. This is a genuinely great, eye-catching cover. I hope Marvel skips their now-traditional red band branding along the bottom of this one when it’s released.
