Some quick, random thoughts about the Guardians of the Galaxy poster:

  1. That tagline is going to become very obnoxious very, very quickly. As it is, it’s impressively smug, especially coming after the “From the Studio That Brought You” up top.
  2. I may be the only person who thinks this – I’ve definitely not seen anyone else say it online – but that logo seems really weird to me, as if it’s slightly out of focus, like a screencap. The first time I saw the poster, I assumed it was a mistake, but apparently not.
  3. I wish there was some way to make Rocket Raccoon seem a little bit more… present in there? As it is, he looks like he’s a concept painting added after the fact (Yes, I know it’s not a real raccoon, but still – the shots from the movie seem more realistic than he does on this poster).
  4. There’s a lot of empty space in this poster. Like, too much? I get that the Guardians are supposed to be off-kilter and the underdogs and everything, really, I do, but that image of them feels like an afterthought to me.
  5. I don’t know why I find it quite so funny/depressing as I do, but Gamora wearing heels is just… oh, of course she is, she’s a woman after all, you know? Heaven forbid that she’d be allowed to wear more practical footwear being the galaxy’s deadliest woman and all.
  6. At least she’s not showing her ass to the viewer, as per so many other Marvel movie posters. That’s something, I guess?

I guess I really don’t like this poster after all. Ah well, at least I dug the trailer.
